NEWS FROM THE FIELD

As every year, the LIFE FALKON team was busy monitoring the population of Lesser Kestrels nesting in the Po Plain during the spring and summer months.

The cold and rainy weather in May caused a delay of about three weeks in egg laying, moreover, the flooding that affected large areas of Emilia Romagna caused more than a few problems in reaching the nest boxes and nesting towers. However, the team did not despair and managed to complete the inspection of the entire area.

Surprise! Among the various eggs found, there were some of roller (Coracias garrulus), a rare and particularly protected species. This is excellent news, which confirms the importance of the actions undertaken by LIFE FALKON, not only for the lesser kestrel but also for many other bird species!
