Distribution

The Lesser Kestrel breeds in southern Europe, North Africa and central Asia. It is found in Spain (which is home to about half of the European population), Portugal, Gibraltar, France, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYRO Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Israel, Palestinian Authority Territories, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia. Long-distance migrant, it winters mainly in sub-Saharan Africa; the greatest winter concentrations of the species are observed in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa
